How to Use Your Cards Safely
Remember! Cards are safer than cash. You must only remember about a few simple rules:

  •
  • Never write down your PIN number on your card. Ideally, you should memorise it and destroy your PIN envelope. A large number of banks make it possible to choose your own PIN code, which makes it easier to memorise. Remember, if a card with it's PIN number written down is used for an illegal transaction, the bank will not accept your complaint.
  •
  • Always shield the ATM or PIN Pad keys with your hand whilst entering your PIN number. Some thieves install cameras at a cash dispenser or next to it to spy on you when you enter the code and then use it for fraudulent transactions.
  •
  • Do not use dodgy-looking ATMs. Installing a special device in the card slot that reads the magnetic strip is one of the ways to make illegal transactions. If a cash dispenser looks dubious to you, you had better use another cash machine.
  •
  • Block your card if lost or stolen. Do it immediately. It is advisable that the Call Centre telephone number is written down in an easily accessible place so you can block your card.
  •
  • Never lose sight of your card when paying at a retail & service outlet. A number of outlets are equipped with portable terminals so that sales persons do not need to take your card and walk away with it in order to process the transaction. If this is not possible, you had better accompany the salesperson.
